Important Information

We can’t wait to get to know you and your children.

Enclosed in our packet, you will find our daily schedule, rules of the classroom, expectations, our goal as teachers and a “Tell Us About Yourself” sheet which we would like you to fill out and bring back to us.

Our Focus

Our main focus in the Wildebeest room is independence and kindergarten readiness (name writing, numbers and counting, alphabet recognition), problem solving, and self help skills. These are all very important steps for children at this age to achieve. Children should be encouraged to become more self sufficient by cleaning up after themselves, self serving at meal times, dressing ones self, and getting nap things out are just a few things that we will be focusing on in our classroom.

Our Goal

Our goal in the Wildebeest room is to have the children ready for kindergarten by June of 2011 both academically as well as socially. Small groups will be done weekly with the children and their progress will be documented.

Communication

As parents you will be receiving communications at least once a week through TeachingStrategies.com.Please use our classroom email to get in touch with us at any time at wildebeest@kids-safari.com. There is also a parent/teacher communication log located on the clipboard near our doorway. Also, please be sure to empty your child’s take home folder located in our classroom daily for any important classroom information of work your child may have done.

Items Needed

Items needed in the Wildebeest room for your child are a small crib sheet, small blanket and small pillow (optional). These items MUST be able to fit into your child’s cubby. There is room in the bucket above their cubby for an extra set of clothing to keep here that should fit in the plastic bag provided. Please be sure to have clothing that is appropriate for current weather temperatures.

Toy Day

Toy day is on Friday only. Please be sure that your child brings only ONE toy that is age appropriate. We also ask that the children do not bring extra snacks to the classroom as well.

Opening and Closing

If you arrive prior to 7:00 am, your child should be dropped off in the Cafeteria. At 7:00 am, a Wildebeest teacher will be in and available for dropoffs at that time. The Wildebeest room will close at 5:15 pm and combine with the Lion classroom.

Daily Schedule

Our schedule is consistent while still allowing for some flexibility to meet the needs and interests of the children. Each day our activities and goals for the day focus on many skills including: language and literacy, math, science, dramatic play, art, sensory, music, gross and fine motor skills and outdoor activities.
