Welcome to the Rhino Room

We are excited to have you as part of our room and look forward to learning with you and your child. Please feel free to ask any questions along the way. If you would like to speak with us at length you may schedule a conference or call during our quiet time between 12:30 and 2:30. We are committed to making this a smooth transition for your child.

Good to Know!

Attached you will find a daily routine. We will have gym and library on Tuesdays and Fridays. If your child wants to wear flip flops on these days, please send comfortable shoes for him/her to change into.

You will find a parent communication notebook directly inside our classroom door. Messages of your child being absent, change in schedule, alternative adult picking up, or any other messages should be written here. If calling in, please ask to speak to the Rhino Room. Thanks!

The Rhino Room is fully integrated with Creative Curriculum Online. In addition to our daily news, there will be notes, classroom updates and pictures of your child submitted on a regular basis. Be sure to check out our weekly curriculum online as well! This is also a great way to communicate with us about your child and family. We usually check e-mails during quiet time.

The Rhino Room’s direct e-mail is
rhino@kids-safari.com.

Building
early literacy skills is one of the main learning goals we will focus on with your child. This includes but is not limited to letter recognition, phonemic awareness and consciousness of our written language, including learning how to write their name! Every morning your child will be expected to recognize and locate their name on our sign-in board. Please allow your child to independently find their name and move it to our board.

The Rhino Room also focuses on building
independence skills. There are stools next to the cubby area for your child to access their belongings. Your child has a cubby labeled with his/her name along with two coat hooks. All of their nap materials will need to fit into the wooden box part of the cubby. It is a state regulation that none of their belongings are ever touching. If your child insists on having more than what fits, please bring a backpack that can be zipped close to keep anything extra. Please keep weather appropriate clothes in the top bucket.

The pocket chart by our classroom door is where we will store papers and art work to be sent home. Please check the pocket behind your child’s name on a daily basis.

Toys from home-If your child insists on bringing a toy from home they will be allowed to play with it until breakfast time. At breakfast time we will ask your child to put their toy away until it is time to go home. Your child may bring a stuffed animal or other comfort item to sleep with during our quiet time.

Computer: The Rhino Room is fortunate to have a computer with preschool learning games. There will be a sign up sheet by the computer. Turns will be limited to 15 minutes.

Items Needed

Please make sure your child has a sheet and blanket each day. We will ask that you take these items home on Fridays to be washed. If your family is new to Kids’ Safari we ask that you also bring in a 1 inch 3 ring binder as well as 5 dividers. This will be your child’s portfolio! This will be returned to you with all the work collected throughout their time at Kids’ Safari or when they go to Kindergarten.

Extra set of clothes! –Be sure to check now and then to be sure they are weather appropriate.

Summer Time: Swimsuit and Towel for water play

Sunscreen-We will apply every morning and afternoon Bug Spray

Winter Time: Snow pants, boots, hats and mittens
