Welcome to the Lion Room

We can’t wait to get to know you and your children.

Our goal

Our goal in the Lion room is to develop positive relationships with the children and to provide a secure and loving environment that parents/guardians can feel safe in leaving their children in our care.

We also will be working toward teaching your children appropriate social skills as well as guiding behavior and providing emotional support. Independence is a big goal for the lion classroom. At this age children should be encouraged to become more self-sufficient. We teach the children to use words to express their needs and wants as well as using their manners to do so. Cleaning up after themselves, self serving at meal times and getting nap items out are some of the things that will be encouraged in the Lion room.

Language skills

Language skills will be encouraged by engaging in a variety of activities such as letter recognition games and phonemic sound exercises. We will further language skills by doing some beginning writing activities. Math, science, creative arts and motor skills will be addressed throughout our curriculum as well.

Items Needed

Items needed in the Lion room for your child are a small crib sheet, small blanket and small pillow (optional). These nap items must fit inside your child’s cubbie. Your child will also need an extra set of clothes to keep here that are appropriate for current weather temperatures. These will go into the bucket on top of your cubby.

Toy Day

Toy day is on Friday only. Please explain to your child that they may only bring toys or items from home on toy day. When we have to make them put the toys in their cubby there is often hurt feelings.

Opening and Closing

If you arrive prior to 7:00am your child should be dropped off in the Cafeteria. At 7:00am a Lion teacher will be in and available for dropoffs at that time. The Lion Room will close at 6:00pm

Daily Schedule

Our schedule is consistent while still allowing for some flexibility to meet the needs and interests of the children. Each day our activities and goals for the day focus on many skills including; language and literacy, math, science, dramatic play, art, sensory, music, gross and fine motor skills, and outdoor activities.
